Nu Delta Chapter
The Naturally Dazzling
The Nu Delta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho was chartered October 17, 1992, and proudly serves the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Located in Princess Anne, Maryland, UMES is one of the state's four HBCUs. UMES is a land-grant university founded in 1886 with approximately 2,500 students. UMES offers degrees in various degree subjects including unique areas such as Agriculture, Aviation, and Professional Golf Management.

The values of the UMES chapter are aligned with our founders: sisterhood, respect, honesty, accountability, integrity, excellence, and communication.

The Beginning of a Legacy
The charter line started the chapter off with a strong foundation in Sisterhood, Service, and Scholarship.

Some initiatives that were adopted by the chapter early on were “adopting” a young girl from Africa and sending her money monthly, a party with the Somerset County Disability Center, various food drives, and supporting the March of Dimes foundation. Other events hosted include bake sales/Valentine’s Day sales, “Ladies, Let’s Be Ladies” seminars, and much more. Following in the footsteps of their charter members, tutoring and mentoring young boys at the Boxing Association were among the early community service initiatives Nu Delta took on.
In keeping with Sigma Gamma Rho’s national ideals, over the years, the chapter has supported the following organizations:
• NAACP
• National Council of Negro Women
• NPHC
• Leadership Conference on Civil Rights
• National Urban League
• National Mental Health Association
• United Negro College Fund (UNCF)
• Martin Luther King Center for Non-Violent Social Change
• Black Women’s Agenda and American Association of University Women
• Habitat for Humanity

Nu Delta strives to keep the torch of Sigma shining brightly on campus through community service, empowerment of women, and the spirit of sisterhood.

Nu Delta is currently advised by the Mu Omicron Sigma Alumnae Chapter.
