DR. MALKIA JOHNSON

It is with great honor and humility that I step into the role of President of the Majestic Mu Omicron Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., for the 2024–2026 Sorority years. Our chapter has made an indelible mark on the Eastern Shore of Maryland through sisterhood, scholarship, and service. I am excited to continue carrying forth the vision of Greater in all we do.

First and foremost, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the past Presidents of Mu Omicron Sigma. Your vision and dedication have not only sustained our chapter but also provided a compass for growth as we continue to serve our community with excellence. I also want to acknowledge and thank the dynamic members of Mu Omicron Sigma. Your engagement, dedication, and passion for service are truly inspiring.

The year 2025 holds special significance for our chapter, as we celebrate our 7th anniversary. This milestone is a testament to the strength of our sisterhood and our unwavering commitment to the community. On a personal note, 2025 also marks my 30th year as a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. I was inducted on April 1, 1995, through the Eta Mu Chapter at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. After graduation, I joined the Alumnae Chapter of Zeta Pi Sigma, also in Greenville, NC, in 1999. Upon relocating to Maryland in 2002, I continued my journey of service and joined Mu Omicron Sigma in 2019, where I was honored to serve as Anti-Basileus for four years.

Looking ahead, my focus is on building relationships and fostering deeper connections within our chapter and the community. To build a stronger community, we must prioritize relationships. I believe in the power of listening to people’s stories, and I firmly believe that true healing and understanding are cultivated when we approach one another with cultural humility.

  • I have three sisters who are also proud members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

  • I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 22 years of experience in the mental health field.

  • I serve as Director of Counseling at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

  • I am the co-owner of Living Well Counseling and Consulting Services, LLC.

As we embark on this next chapter of growth and service, I am excited to work alongside our chapter and community members to achieve our shared goals. Together, we will continue to make an impact that reflects our unwavering commitment to being Greater for the Eastern Shore of Maryland and beyond.
